Fantastic advice, thank you. One of my main aims for next year is to find a share in an aircraft - I know this is realistically the only way forward.

All the pilots I've met through the BAeA thus far have been amazing, and several are people I look up to and who are willing to talk to and help me where they can - I feel incredibly privileged to be a part of such a fantastic community. Judging is certainly something I'm planning to get involved in next year for sure.

It's going to be a tough few years I know, but the challenge is all part of the experience. And of course a big chunk of it is damned good fun too :-)

This is a great goal to have, and a tough one. It will take a few years of focus, time and money.
My advice is to ask for advice early and ask everyone you can. Pick people who you aspire to be and ask them for their help and suggestions. If they are the sort of person that you want to be, they won't mind helping. Take a look at the BAeA buddies page if you need help finding someone. Ask on the BAeA reflector ( assume you are on this?)
My advice is that it will be difficult to get where you want to be by renting. You will need to get a share in a capable aircraft that is conveniently located. Enter competitions and spend money on getting good critique rather than wasting Avgas just practising your errors!
Spend some time helping judge or judging, this is free training! and you can get some expenses.

Set yourself a goal each year and plan a way to reach it.
